Raise awareness:


  • Ask your member of the U.S. Congress to become a champion for decent housing and especially improved tenure security, which has proved a major roadblock to rebuilding in countries like Haiti.   
  • Share your concern with friends, civic groups, your elected officials and others and recruit them to take action with you.
  • Use World Habitat Day, the first Monday every October, as an opportunity to help raise a collective voice in support of adequate shelter worldwide.
  • Ensure that shelter gets the attention it deserves on the global development agenda.
    • Speak with your government representatives and key decision makers.
    • Write an op-ed.
    • Start a petition that calls for better housing policies and improved shelter solutions.
  • Attend Habitat on the Hill, Habitat’s annual legislative conference each February in Washington, D.C. Habitat on the Hill is your chance to gain valuable advocacy knowledge and speak directly to your members of Congress about your concerns
