About RMFHaiti
Ricky Martin traveled to Port-au-Prince on January 19 with Habitat for Humanity International’s chief executive officer, Jonathan Reckford. Together, they visited earthquake-ravaged neighborhoods in the capital city.
Martin was moved by the massive devastation caused by the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti, and just as he did following the December 2004 Asian tsunami in Thailand, Martin traveled as quickly as possible to the affected region.
“Children and families impacted by this disaster will need long-term help restoring their lives—in every sense of the word,” said Martin. “Every family is a family in need. I’m asking each of you to think about the future of the children. What they will need to survive after they are properly fed and have received appropriate medical care is a safe and decent home.”
Ricky Martin’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity
The Ricky Martin Foundation and Habitat for Humanity partnership began when Ricky Martin dedicated his time and resources to help Habitat respond to the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
Today, the partnership continues with the formation of the RMFHaiti and RMFChile Recovery Funds. These funds will help Habitat for Humanity provide immediate and long-term rebuilding efforts in Haiti and Chile. For photos, view the slideshow, Ricky Martin joins Habitat effort in Haiti.
