A house full of joy
For homeowner Edith Wangui Karaja, even the smallest things about her Habitat house bring a smile to her face.
Karaja works at Panda Flowers in Naivasha, Kenya, spending her days in the large greenhouse. Habitat Kenya has partnered with a self-help group at the company to help several employees achieve homeownership.
Without doubt, Karaja’s smile reflects the solid roof over her family’s head and the knowledge that there will still be enough for food and school fees for her children after making her mortgage payment each month. But it’s also about the little things that so many homeowners might take for granted—the room her children have to grow, even the dedicated place she now has to hang the family’s clothes to dry.
Ask her how all of this makes her feel, and her quiet response is “Joyful.”
