Economic impact in Iowa

Habitat had a total economic impact of nearly $24 million throughout the state of Iowa in 2011, according to a study by the University of Iowa’s Housing Policy Center.

The study looked at total impacts to the economy as a result of money spent and wages paid by the state’s 34 Habitat affiliates, including additions to local government property tax revenues.

“We are extremely happy with the results,” says Lisa Houser, Habitat Iowa executive director. “We will use this study to educate people about the importance of affordable homeownership, the Habitat mission, and let them know we’re here to make an impact.”
