“Education truly is the key to life. Educate yourself, and you have no limits to what you can achieve,” says Mary Zar, who moved into an East St. Tammany Habitat home when she was 4. Zar was the first person in her family to graduate from high school and went on to study criminal justice at Southeastern Louisiana University.

“Habitat gave me a stable place to live. As a kid, that’s your biggest fear — not having a place to go home to. Once I had that, everything else could change.”
