A global housing crisis

According to UN-Habitat, some 827.6 million people worldwide live in urban slums like this one, which covers the hillsides of Soacha, Colombia.

In Soacha, south of Bogota, 75 percent of residents live under the poverty line, in houses they construct themselves using modest materials and construction techniques. Conditions are crowded, and access to infrastructure is often nonexistent.

The need is immense. The percentage of people without access to decent housing is rising, and adequate housing is vitally important to the health of the world’s populations, communities and economies.

Habitat for Humanity envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Join us today!
