Habitat AmeriCorps blitz build brings
smiles in North Carolina

For a week in May, more than 400 AmeriCorps members and alumni came together to build with 40 partner families in three U.S. cities for the annual AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon.

These national service members repaired, renovated and built new homes with Greater Des Moines Habitat in Iowa, Wild Rivers Habitat in Wisconsin and North Carolina’s Habitat Wake County.

Future homeowner Iris Hall and her daughter Laney were on site in Wake County and saw the house Iris will soon call home go from foundation to nearly finished during the weeklong blitz build.

Habitat and the Corporation for National and Community Service have been in partnership since 1994. In 20 years, more than 8,000 AmeriCorps members have worked with Habitat to serve nearly 20,000 U.S. families — resulting in more than 13 million hours of service. In addition, AmeriCorps members have raised millions of dollars in donations and have engaged more than 3.1 million volunteers.
