Habitat for Humanity homeowner and former homeless veteran attends signing ceremony of VA reform bill

WASHINGTON (August 7, 2014) – Ken Harris, a formerly homeless veteran and current Habitat for Humanity homeowner, and members of Habitat’s staff were on hand in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to witness President Obama’s signing of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act, which provides needed services to veterans by the Veterans Administration.

“Habitat for Humanity supports the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act and we are honored to witness the president promptly sign it into law,” said Christopher Ptomey, director of federal relations. “Research consistently demonstrates that decent, affordable housing contributes significantly to good health. As Habitat continues to improve housing for military service members, veterans and their families, we are pleased to see this law improve the VA’s ability to meet other healthcare needs of this community.”

Through its Veterans Build initiative, Habitat for Humanity supports our nation’s military service members, veterans and their families through volunteer, employment and housing opportunities. Habitat is pleased to see improvement in serving this important population.
