Transamerica doubles commitment to Habitat for Humanity

Sponsors fourth annual blitz build as part of expanded relationship

BALTIMORE and ATLANTA (May 13, 2015) – More than 500 Transamerica employees will renovate or build homes in 12 cities across the United States this May during the company’s fourth annual Habitat for Humanity blitz build, part of an expanded volunteer effort with the organization.

“Transamerica is pleased to be more than doubling our financial commitment and greatly increasing our personal hours committed to this amazing organization,” said Kent Callahan, president and chief executive officer of Transamerica’s Investments and Retirement division, which organizes the event. “Our mission to help people save and invest wisely to live the life they want aligns perfectly with that of Habitat’s mission and purpose.”

This year, Transamerica elevated its sponsorship level, reflecting its ongoing commitment to Habitat for Humanity. The number of volunteers will grow by more than 50 percent and the May program will expand to include a build in Denver, Colorado, and an entire house in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition, Transamerica plans to invite customers and business partners to the builds for the first time.

Participating Transamerica employees will gather at their respective Habitat build sites for a full day of volunteering, helping either to transform existing properties or to build new, affordable homes. Their efforts will help revitalize neighborhoods in the following cities:

  • Atlanta, Ga.
  • Baltimore, Md.
  • Boston, Mass.
  • Cedar Rapids, Iowa
  • Charlotte, N.C.
  • Chicago, Ill.
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Denver, Colo.
  • Greensboro, N.C.
  • Harrison, N.Y.
  • Los Angeles, Calif.
  • Twin Cities, Minn.

In the first three years of Transamerica’s Habitat program, employees spent more than 8,000 hours working on more than 50 homes in partnership with homeowners.

“Habitat is grateful for the continued support of Transamerica,” said Colleen Finn Ridenhour, deputy director of Corporate, Foundation and Institutional Relations, Habitat for Humanity International. “This funding will provide opportunities for many Habitat affiliates across the country to build or repair homes in partnership with families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing.”
