Ready for a week of life-affirming experiences

By Kristian Jones

As the volunteer coordinator at Habitat for Humanity Kansas City, I get to be hands-on with our community. Whether it’s recruiting, conducting orientations or building alongside our volunteers, bringing people together from all walks of life to work toward a common goal is a heartfelt, life-affirming experience.

I can’t wait to help positively impact the lives of the partner families in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, at this year’s Build-a-Thon. I became passionate about social justice and volunteering as an undergraduate at the University of Kansas, where I studied sociology and English.

This week, I’ll share stories of new homeowners, including several veterans. Our AmeriCorps members also have unique stories, and I’m looking forward to seeing many of them for the second time in our service year.

Working in partnership with families to build decent, safe, affordable homes is an amazing opportunity. I look forward to sharing these stories this week.
