Today 95 million people, one third of the nation, have housing problems and Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing decent, affordable homes for those in need. You can change this by joining us as a volunteer in Americus, Ga.
We are looking for enthusiastic people to donate their expertise to various projects at our operational headquarters in Americus, Georgia, USA. Opportunities for volunteers at Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) range from assisting our reconstruction crew with maintenance work on the various Habitat-owned buildings to creative drafting assignments to assisting with program operations. While some opportunities are great for gaining experience in a nonprofit setting, others draw on the expertise of seasoned professionals or retirees who have specific skills to donate.

What is the typical volunteer assignment like?
Volunteer opportunities range from two to six months. Some opportunities require specific knowledge or skills related to the assignment. One of the more popular opportunities is working alongside our skilled construction staff in renovating and maintaining HFHI-owned buildings.
What can you tell me about volunteering at HFHI?
Since a volunteer is an integral part of our operations he or she is are expected to work normal business hours which are 8 to 5. Business Casual is expected for administrative based volunteers. Operation or reconstruction volunteers need to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. A willingness to share in the community activities is just as important as the skills and abilities you bring to your assignment. On Wednesday mornings between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. there is a group devotional. Staff and volunteers are invited to attend this optional service.
Where Is Americus?
Americus is a community of 17,000 people located in South west Georgia and approximately three hours to the South of Atlanta.
Do I have to pay to volunteer at HFHI?
While we encourage people to raise awareness and their own financial support for their term of service with us, volunteers not local to the area, and who are staying for at least one month, are eligible to receive a small weekly stipend to help cover the cost of meals.
Will I get housing if I am accepted?
Pending availability, volunteers not local to the area may be eligible for a housing assignment. If available, a volunteer will be assigned their own room in a shared, furnished house. The kitchen, living room and bathroom are all shared parts of the housing.
Who can apply for these opportunities?
Anyone who is 18 or older, a citizen of the United States or Canada, can apply for a volunteer opportunity at our headquarters.
