Director of Operations - Haiti (non-profit organization management)

Job Description

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a seasoned and dedicated professional to lead key aspects of our Haiti recovery efforts. Reporting to the National Director of Haiti, the Director of Operations provides technical expertise, direction, leadership and oversight for the design and development of HFHI-Haiti's recovery efforts on a national level in Haiti under challenging conditions. The position also works cross functionally with a number of business partners at Habitat for Humanity International headquarters including finance/grants, human resources, global programs and internal audit. This position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Key responsibilities include:

*Direct the development and implementation of national-level systems, policies, and procedures. Assess existing business procedures relating to disaster recovery and make recommendations for strengthening programs while managing the transfer of operations to the national director and Haitian staff.
*Oversee the development and implementation of project budgets and proposals, including logistics.
*Direct project staff in areas of program development, implementation and systems development.
*Direct project staff on issues affecting project monitoring and evaluation.
*Assist national director with development of programs to increase organizational capacity and to transfer skills and duties to local staff. Facilitate sustainable Habitat for Humanity construction practices.
*Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with potential partners and donors.
*In partnership with the national director, represent  Habitat for Humanity International-Haiti, interacting with local and national government, INGOs, media, resource partners, etc.
*Provide technical leadership and guidance to local and international staff in all the relevant program areas, and promote and facilitate program integration where possible and appropriate.
*Develop a capacity building strategy in program leadership and reporting, through a combination of on-the-job training and workshops, to develop critical skills to assure local staff is fully prepared to assume all relevant program tasks in the next two years.
*Direct and implement other related projects/project teams as required.

Job Requirements

*Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
*10+ years of related leadership experience including at least 5 years of project management, budget development and international development experience.
*3-5 years of experience directly supervising staff, including multi-national staff.
*Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures.
*Experience living and working in a developing country.
*Fluency in written and spoken English.


Preferred:

*Master’s degree in related field.
*Experience in construction/engineering/architecture; comprehensive knowledge of the construction process.
*Local language skill in Creole and/or French.
*Disaster response/relief/recovery experience.
*Logistics experience.
*Experience with and understanding of bi- and multi-lateral donors and related compliance.
*Experience with shelter or low-income housing programs.
*Experience working with Habitat for Humanity, or other non-profit organization.
