International Donors Assistant

Job Description

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking an energetic, proactive individual to volunteer in the role of International Donors Assistant for the Habitat for Humanity Argentina office. This exciting volunteer opportunity gains large amounts of the funding necessary for Habitat for Humanity Argentina's work to continue. This position will be based at the local Habitat office in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is a 6-12 month opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Seeks to raise large amounts of capital to fund special projects.
*Also follows-up with Habitat affiliates in the U.S. to secure their “tithe” amounts.
*Must be predominantly English-speaking, but with good conversational Spanish.

Office Information:

The office and house accommodation for volunteers is located in the suburbs of Buenos Aires (40 minutes away from downtown). Included is free WiFi. The office is located in a safe area, in a house located in a very peaceful neighborhood. Dress code is casual at the office and more relaxed if/when traveling to the field.

 

Country Description:

 

Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina, and the second-largest metropolitan area in South America. It is located on the western shore of the Río de la Plata, on the southeastern coast of the South American continent. It is bordered by Chile to the West and and south and Bolivia and Paraguay to the north, and The Greater Buenos Aires urban area, which also includes several Buenos Aires Province districts, constitutes the third-largest urban area in Latin America, with a population of around thirteen million. Argentina has a temperate climate, with hot summers and cool winters. From November to March we have high temperatures, and from April till August we have cold temperatures. The rest of the year we have moderate temperatures. Argentina is one country of America, located in South America, bordered by Chile to the west and south, Bolivia and Paraguay to the north and Brazil and Uruguay to the northeast. The country is a federation of 23 provinces and the autonomous city of Buenos Aires, its capital and largest city. It is the eighth-largest country in the world by land area and the largest among Spanish-speaking nations. Argentina is a constitutional republic and representative democracy. Buenos Aires is the second most desirable city to visit after Florence, Italy.  Buenos Aires, regarded as the "Paris of South America," offers elegant architecture, exquisite cuisine, a legendary nightlife, and fashionable shopping.  The most popular tourist sites are found in the historic city core, comprising Montserrat and San Telmo. The city was originally constructed around the Plaza de Mayo, the administrative center of the Spanish Colony.



ANTICIPATED HOST ORGANIZATION SUPPORT:

*Dorm-room in National Office (which is a house) for first 3 months. THis is a furnished, shared two-person bedroom with kitchen.

*Must bring own laptop.

ANTICIPATED COSTS TO THE VOLUNTEER:

Monthly estimate for a single individual is given below. (All figures are in USD.)


For a rental apartment:
Housing: $600-$800 (studio)
Utilities: $100
Food: $ 100
Transportation to and from office: $30
Other (recreation and personal expenses) : $100
Estimated Monthly Total: $930-$1000

Job Requirements

*Fluency in English and intermediate Spanish language skills required
*Experience in fundraising and finacial management
*Excellent oral and written communication skills
*Experience working in a cross-cultural setting
*All IVP volunteers must confirm the purchase of international insurance coverage for the duration of their stays.
