Job Description
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking an energetic, proactive individual to volunteer in the role of Big Build Event Coordinator for our Kuching affiliate with Habitat for Humanity Malaysia. This position will serve as the overall coordinator and promoter of the Blitz Build project in Malaysia, which is scheduled from 25 April to 3 May 2014. Blitz Build is an event where Habitat Malaysia aims to build 15 houses in 10 days with 300 volunteers. This volunteer will be responsible for coordinating and event-managing the hosting of Global Village Teams and in-country teams according to the standards set by Habitat for Humanity International.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Work with the Kuching Board of Directors on the operational plans
*Organize, recruit, liaise and host volunteers both local and international
*Event management duties including hosting large events, working with caterers, transportation, hotels and other logistical skills needed to manage the event
*Develop the Blitz Build Volunteer Manual / Handbook
*Seek out and meet with partners including governments, corporates, organizations, churches, and other interested groups
*Identify and solicit local donors and sponsors
*Create public awareness for the project via media, internet, etc.
*Assist and follow up on various submissions to local authorities
*Work with the construction team on the preparation of site to be ready for the Blitz Build
*Work and coordinate various groups during the Blitz Build
*Complete reports as required
*Other duties assigned
ABOUT THE KUCHING, MALAYSIA OFFICE:
Place of assignment is in Kuching, located in the state of Sarawak which is the largest state in Malaysia. Kuching is the administrative capital of Sarawak with a population of 650,000 inhabitants. The city of Kuching and its vicinity have several recreational areas, Wind Cave and Fairy Cave, orangutan wildlife rehabilitation centers in Semenggok and Matang. Visitors who are interested in Sarawak's history and cultural heritage can visit the Sarawak Museum, Islamic Museum, Chinese History Museum, Textile Museum, Timber Museum, Cat Museum and the Cultural Village at Damai. Malaysia's pioneer telecommunications company provides fixed line and wireless services. Most areas also receive cellular telecommunication coverage via various service providers who offer pre-paid and postpaid packages, as well as international roaming services.
Accommodation would be at a guesthouse in a shop lot premise at a cost of $300/month. Room is furnished with a double bed, air conditioning, attached bathroom and a personal television. The guesthouse is located just 10 minutes’ walk away from the Habitat office.
The Habitat office is 15 minutes’ drive to the heart of Kuching city. It is within the proximity of a big shopping mall, medical specialist center and a wide range of 24-hour food courts.
Pack light weight clothing suitable for warm humid climate, and a lightweight raincoat or umbrella for rainfall seasons. Avoid skimpy or revealing clothes or you will get unwanted attention.

Monthly estimate for a single individual is given below. (All figures are in USD.)

Job Requirements
*Fluency in English
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills
*Strong project management skills
*Intermediate logistics coordination skills
*Strong MS Office software skills
*All IVP volunteers must confirm the purchase of health insurance for the duration of their stays.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
*Bachelor’s degree
*Experience creating brochures and/or newsletters
*Project management software experience
*Basic understanding of construction processes
*Experience working in cross-cultural settings
