Job Description

Purpose of the position:

The executive director is responsible and accountable to the board of directors for the management of the Crawford County Habitat for Humanity affiliate and provides overall operational leadership for the affiliate in response to the governance of policies and directions provided by the board.  The complementary interaction of these roles will result in overall vision, direction, health and growth of the affiliate.

Methods by which this mission is met:

  • Provide our family partners a “hand up” not a “hand out.”
  • Advocate on behalf of those in need of affordable housing.
  • Build and repair homes.
  • Recruit and retain volunteers.
  • Cultivate donors and sustainable funding.

Job description:

General administration

  • Administer and manage daily office operations.
  • Ensure affiliate policies are implemented.
  • Administer fiscal control, accountability and budget reporting.
  • Participate with the board in developing a vision and strategic goals for obtainment of mission and growth.
  • Attend board meetings and provide reports of all affiliate operational activities to the board.

Volunteer recruitment and training

  • Ensure appropriate number of volunteers are recruited, trained and given meaningful roles within the organization.
  • Maintain, coordinate and supervise a core of volunteers.

Resource development

  • Establish a resource development strategy for fund development, donor retention and recognition in order to provide affiliate with appropriate resources to meet its goals.
  • Serve as spokesperson within the community for affiliate including developing messages and methods to increase awareness.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Commitment to the Habitat for Humanity mission, principles and guidelines.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of home construction, budgeting, planning, mortgage banking and relevant laws.
  • Knowledge of low-income and affordable housing policies and issues.
  • Experience managing not-for-profit organizations.
  • Skilled in project management.
  • Effective computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and use of the Web.
  • Effective communication skills including public speaking, task delegation and the written word.

Compensation:

  • Part time position, working 20 hours per week.
  • Vacation and sick leave.
  • Salary is competitive and dependent upon education and work experience.
