Job Description

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County Cary Habitat ReStore is in search of an assistant manager.

Overview:

  • This is a full-time salaried position to coordinate our in-store customer service and volunteer coordination efforts, as well as our outreach to the community.
  • This position will be a key-holder and will have the ability to open and close the store when the manager is not available.

Responsibilities:

  • Reach out to the community to attract more volunteers to our Habitat ReStore.
  • Implement and maintain a system of orientation and thanking to all volunteers.
  • Be the key employee operating the register while recruiting and retaining volunteers.
  • Be lead cashier; in charge of closing, communicating information to cashiers and other staff, and to report any issues or inconsistencies to the manager.
  • Organize and operate our involvement in community events and ReStore events
  • Assist the manager in the set up and maintenance of display areas within the store for Habitat for Humanity, reuse and recycling, and the Habitat ReStore’s role within the community. This should be done in coordination with the manager and other needs of the store in regards to timing and placement.
  • Help the manager build the yearly volunteer hours to 6,000.
  • Work together with the other staff to run the store in a manner that is safe, courteous and profitable.

Other duties as necessary:

  • To assist the manager with the receiving, organizing, and stocking of donations.
  • To help other staff cover for the Manager when out of the store on breaks, illness and vacations.
  • To help as necessary and available with the general running of the office and phones.

Expectations:

  • To be courteous and professional.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and spoken, with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • To learn about Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore, and be able to communicate our mission and purpose to volunteers and customers.
  • To be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • To help create an atmosphere within the ReStore that encourages and fosters an open sharing of ideas, concerns and hopes.
  • To be able to interview applicants, fill volunteer positions and manage a complex volunteer schedule.

Preferences:

  • Knowledge of used building materials.
  • Experience in related fields such as retail management, re-use/thrift stores, non-profit volunteer coordinating; or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Habitat/nonprofit experience.
  • College education.

Compensation:

Salary will depend upon experience and qualifications. Habitat offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401K, flex plan, and three annual weeks of vacation.
