Advocacy book: Poverty Housing
The Advocacy Book: Poverty Housing (pdf) is designed for children ages 5 to 8 in a group setting, although it can be adapted and used with individuals. It is a lesson plan and interactive coloring book in which students fill in word blanks, color and draw pictures. When finished, students will have a picture book to read to friends and family. The book raises students’ awareness of poverty and poverty housing on a youth-focused level at which they can relate.
Students may feel excited to help with the issue of poverty housing. Be sure to tell them a great way to start is to educate others about what they’ve learned. Students can also advocate by joining in the Paper House Campaign.
