Habitat for Humanity Guatemala celebrates 35,000 houses
Habitat for Humanity Guatemala will celebrate its 35,000th housing solution, having served more than 175,000 Guatemalans across the country. The celebration will take place in the department of Jutiapa.
JUTIAPA, Guatemala (November 9, 2011) – This week, Habitat for Humanity Guatemala will celebrate its 35,000th house how the organization knows best—by building! With the help of local and international volunteers, Habitat will build eight houses in four days to meet the goal of providing 35,000 housing solutions in the country.
The event will include a celebration and ceremony to thank God and the staff, donors, volunteers, families and communities who made possible for 175,000 Guatemalans the dream of accessing safe and adequate shelter.
The construction, carried out by volunteers and the families themselves in ayuda mutua (mutual help), will take place from November 9-12 in Jutiapa, an affiliate that has built 945 houses to date.
During the build, volunteers will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with local families and Habitat staff, who will travel from all areas of the country to help complete the homes. Both national and international volunteers will work together to make this dream come true.
The House 35,000 dedication ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on November 12. Habitat for Humanity representatives, volunteers and the media are cordially invited to join the event. The celebration will also serve as a launching point for Habitat for Humanity Guatemala’s next goal: 50,000 housing solutions by the year 2013.
