Forum on Adequate Housing for Latin America and the Caribbean: “Shared solutions for inclusive cities” begins
More than 250 participants from civil organizations, NGOs, government representatives, the private sector, finance companies and academia will share experiences in the provision of adequate housing solutions during the first regional Forum on Adequate Housing for Latin America and the Caribbean. The event seeks solutions that will help decrease the housing deficit.
BOGOTÁ, Colombia (September 24, 2012) – The inaugural event for the Forum on Adequate Housing in Latin America and the Caribbean kicks off at 4 p.m. tomorrow, September 25. Colombian Housing Minister Germán Vargas Lleras, as well as Henry Cisneros, who served as U.S. Secretary of Housing under Bill Clinton, will be present at the event.
The inauguration agenda includes a commemoration of World Habitat Day and the launch of the Best Practices Expo, announcements shared by Habitat for Humanity International’s Torre Nelson and Father Diego Jaramillo, president of the Minuto de Dios Corporation.
The Forum on Adequate Housing in Latin America and the Caribbean, which runs from Tuesday, September 25 through Friday, September 28, is a multisectorial forum focused on practical and innovative solutions to providing vulnerable populations with access to adequate housing in sustainable, inclusive cities. Securing the right to the city for vulnerable populations is the main objective of leading organizers Habitat for Humanity International, UN-Habitat, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Minuto de Dios Corporation.
World-renowned housing leaders and experts, whose public or private positions put them at the forefront of adequate housing projects in their respective countries, will participate in the event. The Forum will also include the presentation of practical and innovative solutions that have proved effective in other countries of the world. Among the event’s objectives is the positioning of housing issues as a key factor in the construction of 21st century Latin American and Caribbean cities, learning new approaches to housing solutions that aim to decrease the housing deficit and, ultimately, to contribute to UN-Habitat’s 2025 global housing strategy.
