Habitat for Humanity Paraguay hits its 3000 families served

Luque, Paraguay (May 26th) - After 15 years in Paraguay, Habitat for Humanity held a construction rally in the community of Kurusu Ñuati, Luque. The event was called “3000 houses, we want more!”

The construction blitz lasted a week and more than 100 volunteers from national and international schools; as well as from the US Embassy participated and celebrated with six families the completion of their new houses that week.

Rossana Gonzales was one of the beneficiaries of the activity, she was deeply grateful with Habitat and the volunteers and during the week she kept stating: “if you dream hard enough, your dreams will come true”.

The volunteers who worked with Ms. Gonzales and the other families were very motivated and worked from the first hours of daylight till dusk. Prf. Paul Jenkins –one of the volunteers in the field- said “we dont have a boss here, all of us are working in unity and equality for the same goal”.

The representative of Habitat for Humanity, Werner Schroeder Barg said: These families will feel the impact of having their own house. We are interest in helping Paraguay prosper and we will work this week to reach 3000 households. Next year we want to have at least 4500 families served in the country”.

In Luque, Habitat Paraguay has already presented 179 housing solutions for families.

In that sense, the organization has been highlighting the importance of addressing the housing shortage in the country. They need at least 1.1 million houses, according to the latest data from SENAVITAT. Approximately 43 of 100 Paraguayan families live in precarious conditions, according to an IDB.

The activity “3000 houses, we want more! is done with the support of Vision Bank and the Miraculous Medal Cooperative as allies.
