More than 2,000 employees volunteering at 80 build sites in 30 countries for new 1 million partnership and first-ever Global Day of Service

[San José.] (June 19, 2013) – Today, local Newell Rubbermaid employees will be among more than 2,000 Newell Rubbermaid employees around the world building or repairing homes in partnership with low-income families to celebrate the start of a two-year, 1 million partnership with Habitat for Humanity International. Newell’s first-ever Global Day of Service encompasses 80 build sites in 30 countries, as employees come together to share their time and talents to improve the communities where they live and work.

“Through our products and our people, Newell Rubbermaid has long been committed to enriching the lives of the consumers and the communities we serve,” said Michael Polk, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newell Rubbermaid. “This is a day our employees can all be proud of as we take a step back from our daily routine to share our passion for our brands and bring them to life through this new partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Collectively, when we each give a little we can help our communities gain a lot.”

Newell Rubbermaid’s two-year, 1 million commitment to Habitat includes cash and gifts-in-kind from its portfolio of brands, including Irwin, Rubbermaid and Rubbermaid Commercial Products. The company also will launch a cause marketing campaign benefiting Habitat beginning later this year.

Habitat for Humanity serves as a platform to celebrate the Global Day of Service around the world including 40 volunteer sites in the United States as well as countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia. In Latin America, operations are in Colombia, Chile and Mexico. Volunteers are involved in a variety of activities including “Healthy Housing” workshops, home repair for women heads of household and housing for children with health problems.

Habitat for Humanity Latin America and the Caribbean is working to strengthen the generation of local resources and corporate teams are valuable opportunities to enhance relationships with donors. The wise administration and placement of resources for housing improvement programs are key actions that allow the organization to increase for future projects.

Throughout the Global Day of Service, Newell Rubbermaid employees will share experiences as they volunteer with Habitat to improve their communities.
