NFL superstar and hometown hero Kurt Warner and his wife, Brenda, joined a parade of local and state political leaders, business sponsors and representatives from Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps on Sunday to officially launch the 2009 Build-a-Thon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

On Wednesday, the clouds parted and the sun baked the shoe-sucking mud into a crusty, moderately walkable surface for 500 volunteers working on 20 homes at the 2009 Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

New homes, new hope in Cedar Rapids
The 2009 Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon, which wraps up Friday, has become one of the most visible signs of progress in the city’s ongoing comeback from disaster. In one week, more than 500 AmeriCorps members and other volunteers raised walls, shingled roofs, installed siding, doors and windows on 20 new homes.
