2012 Habitat on the Hill -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1

2012 Habitat on the Hill

Build Louder. Serve Louder.
Feb. 8-10, 2012
Grand Hyatt Washington

We can do even more when elected officials support our affordable housing efforts and goals.

Habitat for Humanity International’s sixth annual advocacy and legislative conference will bring together hundreds of Habitat leaders, advocates, volunteers and supporters from across the country to sharpen their advocacy skills and tell Congress about the issues that deeply matter to Habitat.

Programs critical to Habitat’s work, like SHOP (Self-help Homeownership Opportunity Program) and Section 4 Capacity Building, have received significant cuts in recent months while other programs like AmeriCorps and VISTA national service, are at serious risk of complete elimination. Habitat on the Hill will be more important to the local work of Habitat affiliates than ever before.

There will also be a focus on Habitat’s national initiative to serve veterans and military families by helping them develop housing solutions, and by offering them volunteer and employment opportunities.

Colonel David Sutherland, special assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will deliver a keynote address about the needs of today’s veterans and opportunities to meet those needs.
