JCWP2001 : CLOSING CEREMONY

HOUSE DEDICATION FOR NEW HOMEOWNERS

"WILL YOU INVITE US INTO YOUR HOME?"
"At 2 p.m. Friday, the weary but happy crew of the Asan JCWP site number 16 gathered on the freshly swept street in front of "their" building to present Bibles and house keys to new homeowner families.

Building leader Mr. Nam had a few final words for his crew: "In just a few days, we have finished the houses as a result of our sweat and hard work. First we came as strangers, then we were united as one through our labor. We have smiles on our dark, tanned faces. I hope you all were left with something new in your hearts."

As the house blessing litany was read, Korean and English languages were heard as one with each response: "We dedicate this house to the Lord."

Homeowners then stood side-by-side holding scissors in one hand and a long green satin ribbon in the other. On Mr. Nam's count, the ribbons were simultaneously cut to boisterous cheers of the crew. Champagne corks popped, unleashing a bubbly spray as the homeowners took possession of their new Habitat houses.

Again Korean and English voices spoke in unison: "Will you invite us into your home?" The response ... "With pleasure."
