Miriam and Gerardo RodrÃguez are the proud parents of a newborn daughter. The couple first heard about JCWP 2004 in Veracruz through a Habitat homeownership meeting at the office where Miriam works.
Since they didn’t have children at the time, Miriam and Gerardo thought that they wouldn’t qualify for a Habitat home. However, not long after learning about the program, the couple found out that Miriam was pregnant. “There’s a saying in Spanish that a newborn child brings good luck,” says Miriam.
Before moving into their Habitat house, Miriam and Gerardo were renting a small house. However, through Habitat’s homeownership program now they will have a home to leave to their children as well as a stable environment to raise their new family.
“When a child is born, it’s a miracle,” says Miriam. For Miriam, Gerardo and their new daughter, Habitat has proven that miracles do exist.
