Veracruz University students Gabriela Flores Mendoza and Ernesto Siu Aponte didn’t hesitate to respond to an invitation that was put forth to all students at their university to help with the Jimmy Carter Work Project 2004.
Gabriela and Ernesto agree that building with Habitat has been a life-changing experience and a chance to learn outside of the usual classroom setting. “I’ve learned to do things I’ve never done before,” says Gabriela.
Both students have also enjoyed getting to know the partner family that they are building with this week. “They really appreciate what they have and don’t waste anything,” says Ernesto.
Students like Gabriela and Ernesto who dedicate their time to build houses with families in need are vital to Habitat’s house-building work. This year, students from across Mexico came together to help build houses for 75 families in Veracruz.
