‘The Foundation’

AmeriCorps volunteer Dianne Grant’s experience at the JCWP 2005 in Detroit inspired her poem, “The Foundation.”

Bricks were laid down,
siding was put up
and
friendships were made.

Throughout the week
the foundation was laid.

A house was built
but
a home is what makes
the foundation solid.

Molded by the hands
of volunteers, the home
is filled with love.

Love — the greatest gift
anyone can give.
