Saturday--Arriving -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1

The weekend had begun Friday with the open-armed hugs of friendship all over hotel lobbies in L.A. and San Pedro. Old friends found each other with such joy and surprise you wouldn’t know some of them had planned all this for months.

One of the happy groups had built together in Hungary, Sri Lanka and at other JCWPs since the 1990s. Each year they plan their alumni reunion at the next JCWP.

We first-timers were feeling a little left out. Then Sylvia Bautista, who works with JCWP families on the staff of the Greater Los Angeles affiliate, arrived to help with some of the thousands of last-minute details. We peered at her, laughed and then got to work, even sharing a few hugs of our own.
