The Woods family

Setting a family example

A home has been a long time coming for Delores Woods.

“Owning my own home is something I have been praying and dreaming of for my family,” Woods said. “This means that I have a permanent home to shelter my mother, daughter and granddaughter.”

Woods was born and raised in Birmingham. She graduated from Jackson-Olin High School and attended Booker T. Washington Jr. College of Business. Now she works as an administrative assistant.

Most importantly to her, Woods is able to be an active member of First Baptist Church of Mason City, where she serves as an usher board coordinator and a Vacation Bible School director.

Her new Habitat house will provide a secure home for her daughter, Brittany, and Brittany’s 10-month-old daughter, Jermiah. Brittany is studying nursing at Lawson State Community College.

Delores Woods’ mother will also be in their new house. Estelle Patton is recently retired from the Birmingham Nursing and Rehab Center. A lover of travel, she’s also excited to have a home with three other generations of her family.

And setting an example for those younger generations is the most important thing to Woods.

“This will show my family that if you wait, lean and depend on the Lord, he will answer your prayers,” she said.
