Floors that

transform lives

Together, we keep building floors that transform lives

Our 100k floors to play on initiative continue to change lives across Latin America and the Caribbean. This time, in Guatemala, we have joined forces with the Mario López Estrada Foundation to keep building “Floors for Prosperity” in partnership with the U.S. Embassy.

Over the next 16 months, we will build 2,500 concrete floors in the municipalities of Chiantla and Aguacatán, Huehuetenango, replacing dirt floors in homes of families living in extreme poverty. Supported by a US$1 million donation, this effort seeks to improve the health, nutrition, and overall quality of life of thousands of people.

A new floor may seem like a small change, but the results speak for themselves. In the past five years, we have replaced more than 9,000 dirt floors and witnessed how this simple improvement leads to healthier children, calmer families, and stronger communities. Studies from the World Bank and the University of California, Berkeley confirm that replacing dirt floors with concrete can increase children’s cognitive development by up to 96% and enhance adults’ mental and emotional well-being.

During the 17th National Housing Forum, “Impacting from the Roots: Solutions to the Housing Deficit”, held in Guatemala in October 2025, we presented the findings of our latest impact study on the 100,000 Floors to Play On program in the country. The evidence remains clear: a concrete floor truly transforms lives, improving health, safety, and family well-being.

At Habitat for Humanity, we celebrate this alliance that brings together shared purpose and collective action. It reminds us that when we work together, we build far more than home, we build well-being, hope, and opportunities for families to thrive where they were born.
