MicroBuild fund wins award for supporting more than one million families

Habitat for Humanity’s MicroBuild fund won the Habitat 2023 World Habitat Award, silver category, after allowing more than one million low-income families to improve or build their homes through small loans. The World Habitat Awards are the leading global housing awards. It is organized by World Habitat, in partnership with UN-Habitat, and is characterized by recognizing revolutionary ideas, projects or programs in housing.

More than 7.1 million people now have a safe house

A concrete floor in a house provides safety, comfort, health, and empowerment for the family that lives there. This was taught to us by María Natalia from Guatemala, who now has a concrete floor in her home instead of a dirt floor. She makes a living weaving traditional Guatemalan embroidery. Today, she carries out her economic activity from the comfort of her home. She does it without pain in her knees due to the stones and irregularity of the dirt floor, nor does she inhale dust, nor do her textiles get dirty. Her story is part of Habitat for Humanity’s latest Annual Report 2022, which summarizes the results of the organization’s work, conducted in the fiscal year 2022, in more than 70 countries.

Participate in our visual arts contest for water

Habitat for Humanity International convenes visual artists from Latin America and the Caribbean to the Visual Arts Contest for the Regional Day of Action: Youth and Women’s Narratives for Action - For Water and Sanitation in Latin America and the Caribbean. For this contest, people over 15 years are invited to present an artwork with the theme:  The lack of access to water and sanitation suffered by young people and women in Latin America and the Caribbean as a cause of inequality in urban and peri-urban areas.

100,000 floors to play on

Habitat for Humanity and the Inter-American Cement Federation (FICEM) have launched the initiative “100,000 floors to play on,” with the objective of replacing 100,000 dirt floors with concrete among Latin America and the Caribbean’s most vulnerable populations by 2028. Depending on the needs of each household, the project will also offer solutions such as access to water and improved stoves, in order to build a healthy and dignified environment for families’ sustainable and inclusive development.
