Habitat for Humanity International convenes visual artists from Latin America and the Caribbean to the Visual Arts Contest for the Regional Day of Action: Youth and Women’s Narratives for Action - For Water and Sanitation in Latin America and the Caribbean. For this contest, people over 15 years are invited to present an artwork with the theme:  The lack of access to water and sanitation suffered by young people and women in Latin America and the Caribbean as a cause of inequality in urban and peri-urban areas.

100,000 floors to play on

Habitat for Humanity and the Inter-American Cement Federation (FICEM) have launched the initiative “100,000 floors to play on,” with the objective of replacing 100,000 dirt floors with concrete among Latin America and the Caribbean’s most vulnerable populations by 2028. Depending on the needs of each household, the project will also offer solutions such as access to water and improved stoves, in order to build a healthy and dignified environment for families’ sustainable and inclusive development.

Oxelia still has a safe place to call home in Haiti

Like many residents of Haiti’s southwestern peninsula, Oxelia was at home on August 14, 2021, when the 7.2 earthquake hit. “We screamed and ran outside into the street,” says Oxelia, who lives in the small town of Corail, in the department of Grand’Anse.
