Seventy-six-year-old Gerard Van de Werken hit the gym to prepare for the physical demands of building houses for the 2025 Carter Work Project in Austin, Texas. In an NPR story, Van de Werken shared reflections on his more than 25 years as a Habitat volunteer.

    In 2026, for the first time since 1988, the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project will return to Atlanta. Atlanta Habitat for Humanity will bring volunteers, partners and affordable housing advocates together May 3-8 to build 24 new single-family homes and townhomes.
