Standing with Nepal
On August 26, 2026, a devastating flash flood triggered by a massive debris flow originating in the Lhende River watershed near Rasuwagadhi caused widespread destruction across five districts in Nepal. As of September 20, 2026, the death toll has reached 1,451 people and 5,786 people are still missing, according to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
Based on the Government of Nepal’s Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment, approximately 7,570 houses were affected, impacting 8,317 households, or 32,963 people. The disaster also damaged roads, bridges, agricultural land, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure, disrupting livelihoods and leaving thousands of families without the safe and secure housing they need to recover and rebuild.
In addition to distributing emergency shelter kits, Habitat for Humanity Nepal’s team is on the ground, assessing the needs of affected people and preparing for the months of rebuilding ahead.
