Community Outreach Coordinator

This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The community outreach coordinator plays a critical role in strengthening relationships through planning, coordination and implementation of projects in partnership with the community. These relationships with community residents, local organizations, elected officials and stakeholders will help you identify areas where Habitat for Humanity’s housing and community development solutions can intersect with identified needs and aspirations.

*Build relationships and partnerships with community residents, local organizations, elected officials and community stakeholders.
*Identify community improvement projects and implement them from planning through completion.
*Engage volunteers from local community to support local improvement projects.
*Coordinate and document the implementation of Habitat’s housing and community development solution in partnership with the community.

This position will focus on brand management, disaster risk, reduction, response, home construction, home repair, homeowner services, neighborhood revitalization and virtual / digital systems and platforms aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Where will you serve?

Wilmington, NC is situated between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. Its coastline beaches and its island beaches (Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach) are hot spots for sailing, scuba diving, surfing and kite boarding. In spring, the North Carolina Azalea Festival celebrates Wilmington’s past and present with art, concerts, a parade, garden tours and a circus. Wilmington Riverfest, held in October, draws crowds with art and craft displays, fireworks and children’s entertainment. Movie buffs won’t want to miss the Cucalorus Film Festival in November.

Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity is based in Wilmington and looking for AmeriCorps members to play an integral role in our organization by providing leadership on our project sites through engaging volunteers to become champions for our mission and creating new tools and systems to build capacity.

We interact with over 1,500 volunteers, Habitat homeowners and their families as well as community stakeholders. During your year of service, members will gain insight into how a nonprofit organization operates through hands-on experience in leadership and community development. An exciting time of growth is happening at our Habitat as we build a new 27 single family home development and look forward to starting a new development in the fall of 2022.

Benefits of AmeriCorps service

*Living allowance $17,000 for approximately 10 ½ months of service.
*Segal Education Award of $6,495, upon successful completion of service.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

*Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
*Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Strong research skills.
*Detail oriented and highly organized.
*Experience working with volunteers, teaching or group facilitation.
*Experience working as a member of a team.
*Knowledge of community development practices.
*Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
