Community Outreach Coordinator, Northern Region

This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The community outreach coordinator plays a critical role in strengthening relationships through planning, coordination and implementation of projects in partnership with the community. These relationships with community residents, local organizations, elected officials and stakeholders will help you identify areas where Habitat for Humanity’s housing and community development solutions can intersect with identified needs and aspirations.

*Build relationships and partnerships with community residents, local organizations, elected officials and community stakeholders.
*Identify community improvement projects and implement them from planning through completion.
*Engage volunteers from local community to support local improvement projects.
*Coordinate and document the implementation of Habitat’s housing and community development solution in partnership with the community.

This position will focus on home construction, home repair, homeowner services, neighborhood revitalization, research, monitoring, and/or evaluation aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Where will you serve?

Habitat Charlotte Region has served nearly 3,000 families since its founding and has plans to serve over 200 families annually, and you can be a part of that through a fun and impactful service opportunity. Habitat Charlotte Region has been hosting AmeriCorps for the past 23 years and has a great network of former AmeriCorps members on staff and in the Charlotte Region, and with our apprenticeship program you have the opportunity to continue your stay at Habitat Charlotte Region in a way that will provide professional development.

Not only do we care about affordable housing for our homeowners; we care about affordable housing for you. Housing opportunities are provided above our offices for AmeriCorps members. Habitat Charlotte Region offers rent-free, furnished apartments, training scholarships and other incentives for AmeriCorps members serving with Habitat Charlotte Region. Habitat Charlotte Region’s AmeriCorps members learn, grow, and connect with lifelong friends in a vibrant and growing city.

Charlotte offers many free and budget-friendly cultural events, concerts, and outdoor fun, in addition to the beach and mountains just a short drive away. Additionally, there always seems to be some reason to celebrate and we love inviting our AmeriCorps to those celebrations! We are also committed to deep and meaningful engagement with our partner Habitat organization in El Salvador, and we are often able to provide AmeriCorps with scholarships to build there. Benefits of AmeriCorps service

*Living allowance $16,300 for approximately 10 ½ months of service.
*Segal Education Award of $6,345, upon successful completion of service.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

*Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
*Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Strong research skills.
*Detail oriented and highly organized.
*Experience working with volunteers, teaching or group facilitation.
*Experience working as a member of a team.
*Knowledge of community development practices.
*Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
