This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

*Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
*Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
*Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
*Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
*Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations and will benefit over 65, persons with a disability, military/veteran, youth, young professional and faith based populations

Where will you serve?

Spend your year of service enjoying Florida’s beautiful Gulf Coast while you gain valuable hands-on experience with one of the nation’s oldest and highest producing Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Habitat for Humanity of Collier County of Naples, Florida is one of just two Habitat affiliates to reach the milestone of building 2,000 homes, and has built nearly 100 homes per year for the last 15 years.

With two vastly different office locations, one in a growing city (Naples, FL) known for its affluence, and the other in one of the country’s most important agricultural centers (Immokalee, FL), Habitat Collier offers a unique and fast-paced experience. The need for affordable housing in Collier County continues to grow, with 20 families inquiring for every home we can build and sell. AmeriCorps members will see firsthand the difficulty that the local workforce encounters on their search for affordable housing and the untenable conditions they often find themselves in as a result. With a 42-year history and more than 2,300 partner families, AmeriCorps members will also witness the difference that an affordable home makes in the lives of those families at all stages of partnership, from pre-approval interviews to final mortgage payments. In your off hours, there’s plenty to enjoy for nature lovers and city-dwellers alike. Spend time on one of our many beaches, including nearby Sanibel Island and Barefoot Beach, which both routinely top various “best beaches” lists. Explore our beautiful rivers and canals by kayak or paddleboard, or get closer to our native wildlife on various preserves and wilderness trails. For those who prefer to stay closer to the city, visit our famous 5th Avenue complete with theater, art galleries, fine dining and shopping, or make a weekend trip to nearby Miami or Tampa.

Benefits of AmeriCorps service

*Living allowance $16,300 for approximately 10 ½ months of service.
*Segal Education Award of $6,345, upon successful completion of service.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

*Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
*Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
*Strong verbal communication skills.
*Experience working with volunteers, teaching or group facilitation.
*Experience working as a member of a team.
*Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
