AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.
What will you do?
The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.
- Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
- Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
- Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
- Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
- Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.
This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Centrally located, the metro-Phoenix area offers something for music lovers, foodies, and adventurers alike. In your off hours, enjoy hikes through the red-rock, mountains of Sedona and the forested trails of Flagstaff or take a weekend trip to the Grand Canyon located just 3 hours north of Phoenix. Immerse yourself in local music, art, and food scene in Downtown Phoenix First Fridays just 15 minutes from our central office. Consider perusing the western shops of Old Town Scottsdale or have a boat picnic at Tempe Town Lake.
- Unique projects: Ranked as the #1 affiliate for families served, AmeriCorps members of the Central Arizona affiliate see direct impact in the lives of over 800 families with the help of over 13,000 volunteers a year. During the global pandemic of 2020, our affiliate remained steadfast in the construction of 16 homes, including a 3D-printed home in Tempe, Arizona. Fast forward to fiscal year 2021 – 2022, in partnership with U.S. Vets, we constructed two, 5-bedroom, community homes for female, veterans.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
