Construction Crew Leader - Home Repair

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.
What will you do?
The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.
- Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
- Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
- Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
- Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
- Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.
This position will focus on home construction and repair aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

- Activities and attractions: The National Capitol area offers many unique local attractions that are free of charge, such as the Smithsonian museums and zoo, as well as tours of our nation’s landmarks like the White House, Capitol building, war memorials, and National Monument. If you are a history buff, this location is perfect for you because you can view historical relics, such as the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence, which are housed in the National Archives building. Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia also boast lots of great outdoor activities from hiking nearby trails to paddle boating in the Tidal basin and biking paths that extend all the way from the city to the suburbs of Virginia. Last, this area is home to many different cultures as people from all over the world move to this area; therefore, there is lots of delicious cuisine to try and diverse groups of people to meet.
- Unique projects: We are hoping to grow our home repair program to potentially involve volunteers. Right now, we only use staff and hopefully, AmeriCorps members to complete the repairs. We want to grow this program because we are looking for alternative ways that volunteers can get involved with our mission outside of new construction build days and ReStore opportunities. We also want to be able to help more families throughout Northern Virginia and D.C. who need affordable repairs completed. Therefore, this AmeriCorps position would provide valuable insight as we work to establish this program. They would not be responsible for building that capacity, but they would be involved in discussions as we create this project.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
