Construction Systems Development VISTA - 2020-21

For one year, you can get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are Volunteers in Service to America who perform indirect service to build capacity and sustainability solutions.

What will you do?

The construction systems development VISTA member creates, documents and implements a plan to improve construction operations. Explore construction processes and systems currently in place to help identify best practices and areas for improvement. Develop and implement an enhanced construction operations plan that addresses preparation, planning, scheduling, home repairs, green building techniques and work site safety. Test, evaluate and revise the project plan; develop manuals and training to ensure sustainability beyond your service.

*Evaluate current construction procedures and develop and implement a plan to improve or expand the organization’s construction operations.
*Research green building techniques that would benefit the local Habitat and, in collaboration with construction staff, develop and document green and sustainable building practices for the construction department.
*Research and develop systems for improvement regarding work safety and training for onsite volunteers.

*Annual living allowance of $14,136.45 (determined by the service location).
*Segal Education Award of $6,195, upon successful completion of service.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications
*Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
*Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Strong research skills.
*Detail oriented and highly organized.
*Experience working as a member of a team.
*Project management experience.
*Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
*Current valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and reliable transportation
