Homeowner Services Coordinator

This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The homeowner services coordinator builds and maintains the pipeline of homeowner families by leading efforts to recruit and educate qualified families for both homeownership and home repair opportunities. This role involves recruiting homeowner family applicants and serving as their point of contact as they go through the application process. Together with a family selection committee, you help select homeowner families for a variety of housing products including new home construction, repair or rehab of existing homes and weatherization projects.

*Coordinate existing programs to recruit homeowner applicants for traditional homeownership opportunities or for expanded housing products such rehab, repair or weather revitalization.
*Conduct applicant orientations and assist families throughout process of completing the housing application.
*Work with the family selection committee to select homeowner families based on established criteria and regulations.
*Work with the family services committee and staff to provide educational opportunities to homeowner families.
*On occasion, build alongside homeowner families as they complete their contract requirements.

This position will focus on home repair aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley (Habitat EBSV) revitalizes neighborhoods, builds affordable and sustainable housing solutions, and empowers families through successful homeownership. Habitat EBSV was the first affiliate in the Bay Area to build green and continues to be one of the leading Habitat affiliates in affordable green building in the U.S.

Since 1997 the AmeriCorps Program has been vital to the success of our program. To date, our organization has hosted over 250 AmeriCorps members. Our members play an integral role in providing leadership to our volunteers, engaging community partners, and serving as ambassadors to our affiliate and our mission. AmeriCorps Members at Habitat EBSV engage with over 6,000 volunteers, partner families, and community partners annually. They gain skills in leadership, community engagement, public speaking, and training in a variety of subject matters relevant to the complex world of affordable housing.

In addition to the standard benefits, our AmeriCorps members receive a minimum $1,000 monthly rent stipend paid directly to the landlord to offset the high cost of living in the beautiful and exciting California Bay Area. *Living allowance $17,000 for approximately 10 ½ months of service.
*Segal Education Award of $6,495, upon successful completion of service.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

*Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
*Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Detail oriented and highly organized.
*Experience working with volunteers, teaching or group facilitation
*Experience working as a member of a team.
*Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
