For one year, you can get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are Volunteers in Service to America who perform indirect service to build capacity and sustainability solutions.

What will you do?

The resource development VISTA member creates, documents and implements a plan for donor engagement, tracking and recognition in order to increase the overall donor experience and donor buy-in to Habitat’s mission. Each strategy should be well documented and evaluated to ensure sustainability beyond your service.

*Research, develop and document a resource development and marketing plan, including targeting local individuals, businesses, faith organizations, school groups, civic groups and other community organizations.
*Research, develop and implement systems to track donor contacts and donations and develop a donor recognition plan to recognize donor loyalty and/or milestones.

Where will you serve?

Genesee County Habitat for Humanity is located in historic Flint, Michigan, which is on the forefront of creating innovative solutions in the revitalization and re-creation of urban communities. Genesee County Habitat for Humanity plays an active role in Flint and Genesee County’s renewal by yearly building or rehabbing 8-10 affordable homes, providing approximately 100 Genesee County homeowners with critical repair services, and investing in numerous neighborhood projects throughout the City of Flint.

Flint is home to an active city center with fresh, new eateries, pubs, restaurants and a restored brewery, as well as a recently restored historic theater and an active art scene. If you have a creative side, you can participate in the arts at the Flint Institute of Arts and the Flint Institute of Music and enjoy the vast antique car collection at the Sloan Museum. If you enjoy the outdoors and the changing of the seasons, Flint and Genesee County are also home to an expansive parks system with scenic fishing and camping spots and extensive biking and hiking trails. In the middle of Michigan, Genesee County is only about two hours east or west to the “Big Water” of the Great Lakes of Michigan and Huron and one hour north of the city of Detroit, making it an ideal spot for weekend day trips and sightseeing.

Benefits of AmeriCorps service

*Annual living allowance of $13,399.15 (determined by the service location).
*Segal Education Award of $6,195, upon successful completion of service.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens or is a person residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status. Applicants must be at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

*Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
*Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Strong research skills.
*Detail oriented and highly organized.
*Experience working as a member of a team.
*Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
*Current valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and reliable transportation
