Development Officer, Planned Giving

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking to hire a innovative and strategic thinker to fill the role of Development Officer, Planned Giving. Reporting to the Director, Planned Giving, this person is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding planned gift prospects through a qualified portfolio within a geographic territory, responding to planned giving inquiries, and working collaboratively with special and major gift colleagues as well as local Habitat offices.

CRITICAL FEW OBJECTIVES:

• Establish a strategic and systematic focus on closing both current and legacy commitments from qualified individuals.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward qualified prospects and donors, managing a portfolio of approximately 200+ qualified relationships in a defined territory as well as leads acquired by planned giving marketing vendor.
• Respond to donor inquiries from the planned giving phone lines and email inbox.
• Where required, assist major gift colleagues with questions on planned gifts and assist in closing planned gift opportunities.
• Conduct and/or coordinate face-to-face visits, and other activities with donors.
• Meet or exceed team’s multi-million-dollar annual revenue goals.

This role can be performed remotely from anywhere within the United States or on a hybrid schedule near our headquarters in Atlanta, GA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan activation, solicitations, and reporting
*Demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity for donor motivation; able to personally adapt as needed to meet the needs of donors and effectively articulate the Habitat story.
*Develop strategy for planned gift prospects and carry out strategies for solicitation of these prospects.
*Guide the development of compelling proposals, presentations, and reports. Provide accurate and timely activity and pipeline reports and revenue forecasts.

Strategic Planning and Development
*Establish a strategic and systematic focus on closing current and legacy commitments from individuals.
*Work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors in portfolio, acquired by marketing vendor, or who call/write to the Planned Giving phone line.
*Routinely engage donors in portfolio, acquired by marketing vendor or who call/write to the Planned Giving phone line for face-to-face meetings, donor engagement and affiliate introductions.
*Work with affiliates to collaborate and review donor lists.

REQUIREMENTS

*Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
*5+ years of experience with a demonstrated record in fundraising and Planned Giving.
*Successful experience closing six-figure+ planned gift commitments and life-income gifts.
*Demonstrated track record of successful fundraising in an environment of similar complexity.
*An individual of unquestionable integrity whose professional and personal conduct reflects Habitat for Humanity’s values.
*Innovative, creative, strategic, and analytical thinker.
*Ability to engage senior managers in donor visits, and to earn and maintain their confidence.
*Superior presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with diverse constituencies including principal donors, national staff, and leadership in the field.
*Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to listen, and the capacity to engage, inspire and persuade.
*Passion for and commitment to the Habitat for Humanity mission.
*Ability to ignite a passion and to create and communicate excitement about Habitat for Humanity’s compelling mission.
*Strong development-related technology skills.
*A self-starter with a high level of energy, self-confidence, and a positive “can-do” attitude are essential, as is humility.

PREFERRED

*3+ years of experience with collaborating, cultivating, and closing planned gifts.
*Estate and financial planning or gift planning certification.
*Experience in a multi-national federated organization with the ability to thrive.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $86,700 to $102,000.
