Job Description

The Director of Construction oversees daily construction operations for all Pensacola Habitat for Humanity projects. This role manages project scheduling, staffing, budgeting, quality control, and coordination with field teams, subcontractors, and volunteers. The director of construction ensures that all projects meet established safety, quality, and timeline standards while advancing Habitat’s mission to provide affordable, sustainable housing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
* Oversee day-to-day management of multiple construction sites and personnel. 
* Supervise and mentor construction managers, superintendents, and field staff. 
* Manage project schedules, budgets, materials, and procurement in coordination with the VP of Construction. 
* Implement and monitor safety and quality assurance programs. 
* Coordinate volunteer and subcontractor engagement on active build sites. 
* Ensure compliance with all building codes, permitting processes, and funding requirements. 
* Collaborate with internal departments (Homebuyer Programs, Community Development, Procurement, etc.) to align construction efforts with program outcomes. 
* Monitor project performance and provide regular reporting on progress, challenges, and opportunities. 
* Lead continuous improvement efforts related to workflow, efficiency, and sustainability in construction operations. 
* Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, and respect in all construction activities. 
* Oversee construction site operations and ensure construction crews are properly trained, supported, and consistently meeting quality and safety standards.

 SKILLS: 
* Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. 
* Comprehensive understanding of residential construction methods and local building codes. 
* Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
* Familiarity with construction software and project management tools. 
* Commitment to the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE: 
* Associate’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
* Minimum 5 years of residential or community construction experience, with 2+ years in management.
* Experience supervising staff and coordinating subcontractors. 
* Non-profit or affordable housing experience preferred. 
* Valid driver’s license and insurability required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:  
This position requires both office and field presence, including occasional site visits to construction locations. Must be able to lift 25 pounds and navigate uneven terrain as needed. Travel within Escambia and Santa Rosa counties required. 


The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday but requires flexibility to meet after-hour and weekend obligations. This position requires a valid state driver’s license, safe driving record, reliable transportation, and insurability through our vehicle insurance carrier. This position also requires additional pre-employment screenings including a personal credit check.

Pay Range: $75,000 – 88,000 annually, plus full benefit package 
Schedule: Monday – Friday; occasional evenings and weekends as required
