Subaru’s ‘Share the Love’ again donates $1 million to Habitat for Humanity

Automaker donates more than 3 million to Habitat since 2008 to help build affordable housing

ATLANTA (Feb. 17, 2011) – For the third year in a row, the generosity of Subaru buyers added up to more than 1 million in donations to Humanity for Humanity International from Subaru of America, Inc.’s Share the Love event.

“We are honored that Subaru has selected Habitat for Humanity to participate in its Share the Love event for three years. With the donations from this event, Subaru has helped Habitat to revitalize neighborhoods throughout the United States, respond to the critical shelter needs of people affected by earthquakes and to provide safe, decent shelter to those in need around the world,” said Mark Crozet, HFHI’s senior vice president of Resource Development. “We applaud Subaru for investing in the communities where it works and allowing its customers an opportunity to join in donating to organizations that truly make a positive difference.”

Subaru donated 250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased (up to a maximum of 5 million) from Nov. 20, 2010 – Jan. 3, 2011. Customers who purchased or leased a Subaru during this time determined how the charitable gifts would be invested by designating the 250 to one of five nonprofit organizations.

“We are proud to have once again maximized our budget for the event,” said Tim Mahoney, senior vice president and CMO, Subaru of America Inc. “We are excited to continue a program that engages our customers in giving back to the community.”

The Share the Love event has generated nearly 15 million in donations over three years for a variety of nonprofits that focus on animal cruelty, youth mentoring, environmental protection and affordable homes. This year’s participating nonprofits included Habitat for Humanity, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Meals on Wheels Association of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Ocean Conservancy.
