Yale Locks & Hardware renews commitment to Habitat for Humanity with $5 million pledge of locksets

ATLANTA and NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 7, 2016) — Yale Locks & Hardware, an ASSA ABLOY Group company, today announced it will renew its pledge to support Habitat for Humanity in its effort to create decent, affordable housing. The commitment is Yale’s fourth consecutive five-year pledge, each time donating 5 million of interior and exterior locks and keys for Habitat homes.

“At Yale, we understand that a home provides many things, but the most important is peace of mind. That’s why we’re proud of our 15-year partnership with Habitat for Humanity and pleased to support their work in helping millions of people create safe and secure places to live,” said Jason Williams, general manager, Yale Residential. “We’re thrilled to renew our commitment and in the process help those in need of affordable housing.”

In addition to donated locksets, employee volunteers from Yale and other ASSA ABLOY Group brands have helped build houses with Habitat homeowners in Connecticut, Iowa, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Mexico.

“We are grateful for Yale’s continued commitment to Habitat for Humanity and our mission,” said Larry Gluth, senior vice president, U.S. and Canada, Habitat for Humanity International. “Because of this support, we are able help more families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.”

To date, Yale has provided more than 700,000 locks, valued at more than 16 million, to Habitat for Humanity homes primarily in the United States, and additionally in Mexico and the Asia Pacific region. Yale became a national partner of Habitat for Humanity’s in 2001.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity has grown from a grassroots effort that began on a community farm in southern Georgia in 1976 to a global nonprofit housing organization in nearly 1,400 communities across the U.S. and in over 70 countries. People partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
