Let’s Open the Door, London

Pop-up doors in London

Everyone deserves a decent place to call home. For 50 years, Habitat has been turning that mission into reality by helping millions of people around the world build, improve or finance their homes.

Today, we’re building on that momentum.

We’re popping up in nine cities with an art installation of 10 doors, each featuring work from local artists and real homeowner stories.

Together, they represent what’s possible with a safe, decent foundation.

Building on our momentum.

Through hands-on builds, pop-up exhibits, compelling new research and powerful storytelling, we’re bringing housing to the center stage at a global scale. Learn more.

We popped up live on May 29 and 30, 2026, in London at Covent Garden.

Bex Glendining (she/they) is a biracial queer, UK based illustrator, comic artist and colourist. This is a teaser image of his door artwork.

Graphic image of a living room. Blue walls with twinkle lights, posters on the wall, a long blue curtain on the window, and a dresser with a mirror, succulents and a candle.

For my door illustration, I wanted to create a sense of personality and safety in the mess and chaos of a teenager’s bedroom. The experimentation of self-expression, seeing what sticks while still being in the process of studies and feeling like you’re no longer a child but not yet an adult.

Having a safe place to sleep has always been important to me, especially in the face of housing insecurity. I’ve always loved and tried to customize the space as much as possible, making it cozy and somewhere I wanted to spend time in.
