Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Executive Director to lead Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County’s day-to-day operations and capacity-building efforts. The Executive Director serves as the chief operating officer of the affiliate, responsible for providing overall leadership, strategic vision, and operational oversight to advance the mission of bringing people together to build safe, decent, and affordable housing.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance: Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish long-term strategic goals, ensure organizational sustainability and maintain compliance with Habitat for Humanity International standards and affiliate policies.
  • Resource Development & Fundraising: Lead comprehensive fundraising initiatives, cultivate major donor relationships, oversee grant acquisition and secure capital to fund home construction, land acquisition and community outreach efforts.
  • Community & Public Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the organization to enhance public visibility, build partnerships with local government, corporate sponsors, community leaders and faith-based groups.
  • Financial Management & Operations: Oversee the organization’s financial health, including budget development, financial reporting, risk management and operational efficiency across homebuilding, mortgage servicing and ReStore operations.
  • Team Leadership & Volunteer Management: Manage, inspire, and develop professional staff and key volunteers, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven organizational culture.

Qualifications

  • Nonprofit Leadership: Demonstrated experience in executive leadership, nonprofit management or organizational development.
  • Proven Fundraising Track Record: Strong expertise in major donor cultivation, campaign management and strategic development.
  • Passion for the Mission: Deep commitment to affordable housing and community revitalization.

Compensation: $69,000.00 - $79,040.00 per year
