The Assistant Quality Assurance Manager supports the Quality Assurance Manager in implementing and maintaining quality-control and regulatory-compliance systems for homes produced at the BoulderMOD factory. This position performs in-process and final quality inspections, maintains quality documentation, tracks deficiencies and corrective actions, coordinates inspection readiness and helps ensure that construction meets approved plans, specifications, building codes, manufacturer requirements and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity quality standards. The assistant quality assurance manager works closely with factory leadership, production staff, contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, consultants and the field construction team to identify and resolve quality concerns before homes leave the factory. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position that requires regular presence on the production floor.

Responsibilities

Quality inspections and production support

• Perform and document quality inspections throughout each stage of factory production.
• Verify that work complies with approved plans, specifications, installation instructions, building codes and established quality standards.
• Inspect structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, insulation, air-sealing, weatherproofing, finish and other building components within the employee’s training and assigned authority.
• Confirm that required inspections and quality checkpoints are completed before work is concealed or production advances.
• Identify defective, incomplete or nonconforming work and communicate findings promptly to the quality assurance manager and appropriate production staff.
• Follow deficiencies through correction and verification.
• Assist with final factory inspections and confirm that homes are ready for transport, delivery and transition to field construction.
• Support the quality assurance manager in determining when work should be paused pending inspection, clarification or correction.

Compliance and third-party coordination

• Help maintain compliance with applicable building codes, approved plans, modular construction requirements, energy-efficiency standards and organizational policies.
• Coordinate inspection readiness with factory staff, contractors, subcontractors, third-party inspectors, testing agencies and consultants.
• Support EnergyLogic testing, HERS documentation, RSR requirements, utility-rebate documentation and other applicable energy or performance programs.
• Verify that required testing, inspection and compliance documentation is complete and properly filed.
• Assist with responses to inspection findings, plan-review comments, testing deficiencies and corrective-action requirements.
• Escalate code conflicts, design discrepancies, recurring defects or unresolved compliance concerns to the quality assurance manager.

Documentation and record control

• Maintain accurate inspection checklists, photographs, test reports, deficiency logs, corrective-action records, approvals and closeout documentation.
• Organize quality records by project, home, module, production stage and inspection type.
• Ensure that current approved plans, specifications, product information and inspection requirements are available to production staff.
• Document changes, field conditions, substitutions and corrective work as directed.
• Assist with assembling quality and compliance records required for transportation, site installation, inspections, certificates of occupancy, warranty reference and project closeout.
• Maintain clear records of unresolved issues and communicate outstanding items during factory-to-site transitions.

Quality systems and continuous improvement

• Ability to use, implement and train others on an ERP system to manage quality systems.
• Track recurring deficiencies, installation errors, damaged materials, rework and other quality trends.
• Help identify the causes of quality problems and recommend practical process improvements.
• Assist with developing and updating inspection procedures, quality-control checklists, standard work instructions and training materials.
• Support training for factory staff and volunteers on workmanship standards, inspection expectations, documentation and proper installation practices.
• Participate in production meetings and communicate quality concerns, upcoming inspections, unresolved deficiencies and compliance deadlines.
• Promote a workplace culture in which quality concerns are reported early, addressed respectfully and resolved before they affect later stages of production.
• Help evaluate completed homes and warranty findings to identify lessons that can improve future factory production.

Materials and inventory verification

• Inspect delivered materials for visible damage, correct quantities, approved specifications and suitability for installation.
• Verify that products and materials used in production match approved plans, specifications, submittals and manufacturer requirements.
• Identify damaged, incorrect, missing or nonconforming materials and report discrepancies to the quality assurance manager.
• Assist with material tracking, inventory documentation and organization as they relate to quality control and production readiness.
• Review packing slips, delivery records and related documentation as assigned.

Collaboration and communication

• Work closely with the quality assurance manager, factory manager, assistant factory manager, production staff, assistant construction director, construction manager, contractors, subcontractors, consultants and inspectors.
• Communicate quality requirements and deficiencies clearly, professionally and respectfully.
• Provide the field construction team with accurate documentation regarding unresolved items, special installation requirements or factory-related corrections.
• Work directly with contractors and subcontractors when coordinating inspections or resolving quality issues.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries when working with future homeowners, volunteers, vendors and community partners.

Safety and general responsibilities

• Follow and reinforce all workplace safety policies and factory procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment or work that could affect the safety or integrity of a home.
• Maintain clean and organized inspection and documentation areas.
• Participate in staff meetings, training and organizational activities as required.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in residential construction, modular construction, manufacturing quality control, building inspection, construction administration or a related field preferred.
• Working knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, sequencing and workmanship standards.
• Must be able to learn and use an ERP system.
• Experience performing inspections or documenting construction quality preferred.
• Familiarity with building codes, energy-efficiency requirements, modular construction or third-party testing programs preferred.
• Ability to read residential construction drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with digital documentation, spreadsheets, photographs, shared files and project-tracking systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while following established procedures and escalating issues appropriately.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for occasional travel to construction sites or other project locations.
• Ability to safely access active production and construction areas, including stairs, ladders, uneven surfaces and confined work areas.
• Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
