Last year, more than 910,000 Habitat for Humanity volunteers built homes, advocated for action, and spread the word to help families around the world have safe, decent places to live.

Thank you, Habitat volunteers!

Every year on December 5, Habitat for Humanity joins the United Nations and organizations worldwide to honor the impact of volunteers. From building and repairing homes to serving on boards to advocating for housing solutions, our volunteers across 5 continents play a vital role in Habitat’s mission. Thanks to their dedication, we helped 3,035,972 people build or improve the places they call home in fiscal year 2024.

This International Volunteer Day, discover your Habitat volunteer superpower by taking our quiz, share your results on social media and explore stories of how others are making a difference. Most importantly, we invite you—and your community—to put your passion into action by volunteering with your local Habitat office or in Habitat communities where safe and affordable housing is urgently needed. Together, we build stronger communities, so everyone has a decent place to live.

What is your volunteer superpower?

Take the quiz to find out and learn how you can make a difference by volunteering with us.

We’ve curated volunteer opportunities which we think best suit Builders. Share your time on:

  • Global Village: Work outside of your neighborhood across five continents and build or improve homes alongside other communities.
  • Local Habitat construction or repair. Work with your hands and help families in your own community improve their homes.
  • Local Habitat ReStore: Sort, stock, organize or prepare donated items that fund more homes.
  • Women Build: Join women-led crews that empower and inspire while constructing homes and community spaces.
  • RV Care-A-Vanners (US): Take your skills on the road by traveling in your RV to help with Habitat builds across the country.
  • Collegiate Challenge (US): Spend your school break making a tangible impact on construction sites with your peers.

Habitat youth volunteers leverage technology to tackle housing access challenges

Passionate and innovative young leaders are reshaping the future of housing. This year, winners of the Habitat Asia-Pacific Youth Housing Solutions micro-grants demonstrate how creativity, technology and volunteerism come together to tackle one of our greatest global challenges: access to safe, affordable housing.

Leading with vision: Meet Habitat Zambia’s board chair

Volunteers like Habitat Zambia Board Chair Mulenga Muleba are key to what we do. When people step forward to give their time, leadership and energy, more families can build safer, stronger futures.
